John 14:6
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” This was Jesus’ answer to a question Thomas asked Him in the previous verse: John 14:5 “Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?” This same question is being asked today as people seek to find the way to Heaven. Thomas did not ask for a way, he asked for “the way”. There is only One Way. The first mention of the phrase “the way” is found in Genesis when Adam and Eve are driven out of the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:24 “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.” The tree of life is a picture of Jesus Christ. Matthew 3:3 “For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” The first time we find “the way” in the New Testament it is also a reference to Him from Isaiah about John the Baptist bearing witness of Jesus. Jesus said…”I am the way”. In order to know the way, we must know Him. 1 John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” When we know Him, we not only know the Way, but also the Truth and the Life. This Easter season, focus on the Way. Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 31-32 | Acts 5
