Psalm 119:99
“I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.” God had made Solomon the King of Israel just before his father, David died. He had earnestly heeded to the words of his father, and remembered them that night that he asked God for wisdom. 1 Chronicles 22:11-13 “Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God. Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.” Solomon knew that only the Lord could give him the wisdom and understanding he needed to judge God’s people as king. His father had taught him this Truth, and he understood his need for God’s help in order to accomplish God’s will for his life. Proverbs 4:1-7 “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” As we receive wisdom from the Word of God, our understanding increases. The wiser we become, the more we will understand. Ask the Lord to help you find wisdom and understanding within His Word today that can be applied to our daily walk with Him. Proverbs 16:22 “Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must seek understanding from the Word of God.
