Proverbs 30:10
“Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.” When a child goes to tell his mother what his brother may or may not have done, he is often scolded for tattle telling. Accusing without proof is slander and will often cause us to regret our decision. If there is not sufficient cause to accuse, we must refrain from doing so altogether. Psalm 101:5 “Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.” Making accusations can be dangerous to our own reputation. Our testimony is imperative to our fruitfulness as a child of God. If we hurt our character, we hurt the cause of Christ. Philippians 2:14-16 “Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” We must submit ourselves to the Wisdom from above before we make accusations against one another. Proverbs 30:7-9
“Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.” Agur here requests two things from the Lord: sufficient grace and convenient food. He had put thought into his requests before he asked them. Do you consider what you need before you pray? If we consider our needs and take them to the Lord in prayer, we are less likely to worry about our situation. When we purposefully pray about every thing, we will find the peace that passes all understanding. Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The Word of God tells us to ask, seek, and knock. Only then are we promised that we shall receive, find, and have it opened unto us. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” God knows what we need before we even ask. Matthew 6:8 “…for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” Should this not encourage us to ask even more? Where God guides, He provides! Where He leads, He precedes! Consider your needs and take them to the Lord in prayer today. Bible Reading: Job 27-28 | 1 John 2 | Proverbs 20 Proverbs 30:6
“Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” Things that are pure have no need for something to be added or taken away from them. Every Word of God is pure. Deuteronomy 4:2 “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” God has preserved His pure Words for us. Yet today, there are many people who choose to add, subtract and change the Word of God to suit their own agenda. There are consequences for those who dare try to change the Word of God. Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” There is no need to add or change His Word, because He does not change. Malachi 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I change not…” Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” When we acknowledge the Who of Wisdom, it allows us to rest in Him. There is comfort in knowing that we can rely on our Creator to provide for and sustain His creation. His Word is sufficient for us. 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Stand strong today and refuse those who try to change the Unchanging Word. “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” What a lesson to be taught to all who will listen! If we would live in the light of this verse, so many of our problems would be solved. “Every word…” There is comfort in knowing that not just some of the Words, but every single Word make a difference. “Every word of God…” When we open our Bibles, we must first consider Who is speaking. Our words are not always true, nor those of our trusted friends and family; but when God speaks, we must remember that He is the Truth. “Every word of God is pure…” The Words that we read within the Word of God are pure. His Words are proven to be without any blemishes, deceit or falsehood. Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” The pureness of His Words enables us to place our trust in Him. He is our Shield. Proverbs 30:5 “…he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” He is our Buckler. Psalm 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.” He is our Refuge. Psalm 91:2 “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Trust Him today. There is protection, comfort, direction, and provision through Him. Trust His Every Word. Whatever you are going through today, you can trust every Word of His Word. Bible Reading: Job 23-24 | 2 Peter 3 | Proverbs 18 Proverbs 30:4
“Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?” Wisdom is a Person. Without Him, there is no Wisdom. Without Him, there is no understanding. Without Him, there was not anything made that was made. John 1:3 “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” The questions in our verse today all point to the Creator rather than any creature. Isaiah 40:28 “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.” The Who of Wisdom is where all wisdom lies. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” If you desire Wisdom, He is available. “The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal, Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.” This chapter was not penned by Solomon, instead, a man named Agur, the son of Jakeh was chosen by the Lord to record what the Holy Spirit inspired him to write. He recognized that he had not learned anything on his own or of himself, and also acknowledged that there was nothing good about him. Luke 14:11 “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” Before we can tell others about their need for the Lord, we must realize our own need for Him. Agur chose to teach others. He had students who learned from him, Ithiel and Ucal. 2 Timothy 2:1-2 “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” We are wise to purposefully disciple others in their walk with the Lord. When we give our time to teach and counsel younger Christians, we are following the Lord’s pattern for growing His church. The gift of Salvation does not stop the day we receive Christ as our Saviour. We are to grow in Him each day as we walk in fellowship with Him. 2 Peter 3:17-18 “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” Wisdom is not learned or achieved, but rather given and received. “An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.” A contrast is the state of being strikingly different than something else. There are many contrasts used as examples for us throughout the Scriptures.; however, here we see the distinction between the just and the unjust. Proverbs 4:18 “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Much like the contrast between the just and the unjust is the difference between light and darkness. From the beginning, after God created the heaven and the earth He spoke light into existence and then divided the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:3-4 “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.” God commanded the Light to shine out of the darkness of this world. 2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” The contrast between the just and the unjust allows us to see the need for more Light around us. 1 John 1:5-7 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” We live in a dark world; but the darker it gets, the greater the Light of Christ can shine! “Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.” We live in a world where seeking the favour of those in authority is often viewed as a way to obtain our own power. Those that actively seek the favour of an earthly ruler most likely have an agenda. Proverbs 19:6 “Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.” Earthly favour is temporary. We need only do one thing to risk losing the favour of an authority figure. Their approval is often based on their own interest. 2 Corinthians 4:18 “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Heavenly favour is eternal. When we seek the approval of the Ruler of rulers, His favour surpasses anything we can receive from man. We are wiser to seek God’s favour, which cannot be obtained by our works or good deeds. By seeking His favour, we are seeking Him. Deuteronomy 4:29 “But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” Seek His face today. 1 Chronicles 16:11 “Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.” Bible Reading: Job 15-16 | 1 Peter 4 | Proverbs 14 Proverbs 29:25
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” Who do you fear? Fear of man brings a snare upon us, which is used here to describe a cause of injury. The three Hebrew boys of the Book of Daniel faced a horrible snare because of their disobedience to King Nebuchadnezzar’s demands. Instead, the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shined brightly through the flames of the fiery furnace because they chose to fear the Lord instead of man. Daniel 3:16-18 “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” Obedience to God instead of men will always result in a higher reward. If the Hebrew boys would have chose to bow, they still would not have burned; however, they would not have seen the glory of the Lord through the flames or been such a pivotal example for us today of what is possible if we would simply obey what God says. Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” When we fear God instead of man, we can be boldly confident that He will help us. Hebrews 13:5-6 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” There is no need to fear anyone else, if we have a godly fear of Him. “Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.” Sin not only hinders our fellowship with God, but it also takes a toll on our perception of our own soul, must less the souls of others. Matthew 16:26 “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” The more sin we partake of, the more tolerant of it we become. Eventually, sin becomes so normal that there is no awareness of it whatsoever. We must be conscious of sin in order to be soul conscious. The eternity of those around us may very well depend on whether or not we give them the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Someone’s soul is worth our inconvenience. The drive thru employee’s eternity is worth getting over our fear of them rejecting the tract we hand them. Luke 9:26 “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.” What are you doing for the souls of others? Mark 8:35 “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” How much is a soul worth to you?
