Proverbs 13:14
“The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” When we are thirsty, our flesh craves for what it is made of the most…water. Much like our bodies long for a drink, our spirit desires to drink from the Fountain of the Word of God. Psalm 36:9 “For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.” When our souls are thirsty, we must taste of the Water found within His Word. Psalm 119:103 “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” It is up to us to partake of the Word today and quench the thirst within us. Revelation 21:6 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” Are you thirsty? The Water is waiting. Bible Reading: Jeremiah 15-16 | John 17 | Proverbs 21

Proverbs 13:13
“Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.” At the root of every problem we see around us is a lack of fear and reverence for the Word of God. Those that reject the Word will be destroyed. As sad and depressing as that sounds, it is still true. Every person born into this world has one choice, to receive or reject the Word. John 1:1,14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” The Word was with God at the creation of the earth, because He was and is God. Jesus came to dwell among His creation so that we could have the opportunity to behold His glory. He came and died, so that each of us could know Him personally and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. God loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die for us. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” When we reject the Word of God, we reject Jesus. When we give the Gospel to someone, and they choose to reject the Truth of His Word, they are not rejecting us…they are rejecting Him. One day every knee shall bow at His feet and proclaim that Christ was in fact Who He said He was. Those that received Him will be rewarded with a home in Heaven forever in His presence. We will also be rewarded for what we did for Him while we had the opportunity. Give the Gospel to someone today. Explain to them that they have a choice to make, to receive or reject the Word. Their eternity depends on us telling them about Him. Bible Reading: Jeremiah 13-14 | John 16 | Proverbs 20 Proverbs 13:12
“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” The higher we allow our hopes to fly, the greater the hurt if it is not the will of God for it to occur. It is better to wait for Him instead of taking matters into our own hands or giving the devil an opportunity to distract and depress us. Psalm 62:5 “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” His thoughts are higher than ours, and our timing rarely matches His. Mary and Martha thought all hope was gone when Christ arrived what appeared to be four days late. Instead, He turned their sorrow into joy when He raised their brother from the dead in His timing. Make Him your Hope today, for He knows what’s best. Wait in faith that He is working His will for your life, and when He asks you to take a step…follow Him. We can have hope, because He hears our prayers. Psalm 38:15 “For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.” We can have hope, because His Word is True. Psalm 119:81 “My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.” When our expectations are based upon the Word of God, we will never be disappointed. Psalm 39:7 “And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.” Bible Reading: Jeremiah 11-12 | John 15 | Proverbs 19 Proverbs 13:11
“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” Anything we obtain to feed our pride is vanity. Throughout the Book of Ecclesiastes we find Solomon regretting all the things in he life that he found out were nothing but vanity and vexation. He understood that most of his choices had no eternal value, and that he wasted so many opportunities. Ecclesiastes 1:14-18 “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.” Solomon, the man who asked God for wisdom to rule His people, allowed his flesh to transform his God given wisdom into wastefulness. If it’s possible for his choices to affect his life so drastically, none of us are immune. We must choose to use the wisdom that we receive for our good and God’s glory by investing in eternity. The best way we can invest is by giving. Acts 20:35 “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” We must gather with an open hand, willing to give to those around us. Jesus told His disciples that the only way we can keep something is by giving it away. Anything we try to keep for ourselves will be lost in light of eternity. Mark 8:35 “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” Rather than living in pride, may we strive to live wisely and give of ourselves as the Lord leads us to do so. Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Bible Reading: Jeremiah 9-10 | John 14 | Proverbs 18 Proverbs 13:10
“Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” In every conflict, pride is present. Contention is the fruit of pride. When we find ourselves in a battle with people, we should look within our hearts to see if it has taken residence. James 3:13-16 “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” Pride is nothing but a tool of the devil to deter and distract us from God’s will for our lives. God hates pride, and resists those who possess it. James 4:6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Examine your heart and life today to see if pride dwells within you. Desire to be clothed with humility so that God can use you for His glory. Any advice or counsel we receive should be found within the Truth of the Scriptures. The best way to defeat our pride is to saturate our lives with the Wisdom of the Word. Bible Reading: Jeremiah 7-8 | John 13 | Proverbs 17 Proverbs 13:5-6
“A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.” We are kept by the righteousness of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. His righteousness within us enables us to remain “in the way” for He is the Way. Proverbs 13:7-8 “There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.” Having His righteousness also makes us partakers of His riches. When we give all we have to Him, He gives us more than we could ever imagine. Proverbs 13:9 “The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.” In His Sermon on the Mount, Christ declared that His children are the Light of the world. Having Him within us brings exceeding joy inwardly and allows us to shine bright outwardly for His glory. When we remember that we are sealed by His righteousness, and not our own, we can begin to make a difference in all that we do. Bible Reading: Jeremiah 5-6 | John 12 | Proverbs 16 Proverbs 13:4
“The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” Diligence is shown by being incisive and sharp. Where else should we go to sharpen our lives but the Sword of the Spirit. The Word of God is sharper than any twoedged sword, and God desires to pierce through the wickedness I’d our flesh by the power of His Word. We have nothing and are nothing without the Word. With the Word of God applied to our lives, anything is possible for nothing is impossible with Him. 2 Peter 1:5-11 “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” When we love according to the Word of God, we are promised a fruitful life full of Wisdom. Proverbs 3:13-15,18 “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her...She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.” Make the choice today to be diligent and not sluggish in your walk with the Lord through His Word. “A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.” We cannot take lightly the effects our words have not only on other people, but on ourselves also. What we say matters, for our words are determined by the state of our hearts. Luke 6:45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Since our hearts are where our words begin, we must make the condition of our hearts a priority. Every thing we say or do depends on our hearts’ desire or intention. Words always have a purpose, whether good or evil. Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” Our deceitful hearts are often dirty because we are carnal and still in the flesh. A dirty heart cannot be trusted or produce good fruit for God’s glory. We must seek to keep our hearts clean by abiding within the Word of God. Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” When we maintain a clean heart before the Lord, He will change our words for His glory. Psalm 51:14-15 “Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.” Bible Reading: Jeremiah 1-2 | John 10 | Proverbs 14 Proverbs 13:1
“A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.” Just like a son obeys the teaching and guidance of his father, as children of God, we must heed to what our Father has to say. His Instructions are waiting for us within the pages of His Word. He has inspired His Instructions for us. They are not just another man’s opinion or advice, but rather are the God-breathed inspired Words which the Holy Spirit told the writers to pen down for every generation to follow. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” He has preserved His Instructions for us. They have not nor will they ever change. If they did, they would not be preserved. He has promised is that He will protect and provide Them for every generation. He desires for all to come to know Him. Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” His Wisdom is waiting for us within His Word, we need only receive Him with willing hearts. We are to obey His instructions. Luke 11:28 “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” We are to delight in His instructions. Psalm 119:47 “And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.” If we desire to be wise, we must first and foremost hear our Heavenly Father’s Instructions. “The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them. The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious. In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.” When we receive Christ, we receive eternal wisdom. We were dead in our sins before He gave us life. Romans 6:22-23 “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” He is the Gift and He is the Life. We are given and promised eternal life when we place our faith in Him. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” The Truth is that there is no other way, because He is the Way. We cannot live in our own strength or abilities. We have no life outside of Him, for all life was created and exists through Him. He makes the dead live once again. Just as He raised His friend Lazarus from the dead, He resurrects though who are dead in their sin when they believe in Him. John 11:25-26 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” Whether we believe it or not, it’s still true…Eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ. Bible Reading: Isaiah 63-64 | John 8 | Proverbs 12 |
