Proverbs 15:27-29
“He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.” When we allow Wisdom to take hold of our lives, we will begin to see His transforming power. He desires to conform us to be more like Him. Wisdom takes the greedy, and makes them generous. Acts 20:35 “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Wisdom takes the impulsive, and makes them gracious. Colossians 4:5-6 “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Choose to allow Wisdom to transform your life today. Renew your mind each day through the power of the Word of God. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” When our minds are renewed through Him, we begin to see His will for our lives more clearly. Proverbs 15:24
“The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.” There is a reason that the Way of Life comes from above; Wisdom resides there. He is the Father of lights, Who gives us every gift we receive. James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Jesus Christ told that He came from above, declaring to the world that He is above all. John 3:31 “He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.” John 8:23-24 “And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” He is the Way of Life, for He is the Way and the Life. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” When we walk in the Way of Life, we avoid the destruction that awaits those who reject Him. Proverbs 15:25-26 “The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.” Wisdom comes from the Way of Life, and gives us gifts of peace, gentleness, mercy and so much more. James 3:17 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” Bible Reading: Ezekiel 17-18 | Mark 5 | Proverbs 19 Proverbs 15:22-23
“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” Not a day goes by that each of us does not need counsel. We cannot carry out our God given purpose without godly counsel. God gives us this counsel from two different places: His Word and His people. The Word of God is Truth because of the God of the Word. He is Truth, and He is all knowing. Psalm 119:24 “Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.” God has also given us the opportunity to be counseled by godly friends and family. He knows that we need to communicate with others to better understand what He has to say. The most important thing is that their advice lines up with what His Word says. If we find that any advice given to us is contrary to what the Word of God says, we must refuse it. Proverbs 11:14 “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Proverbs 27:9 “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.” Seek the counsel of God through His Word and His people today so that you can fulfill His purpose. “A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother. Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.” Wisdom brings gladness. A child that walks in the Truth brings joy to their parents. 3 John 4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Whether or not we are blessed with a Christian heritage, we have a Heavenly Father Who likewise has no greater joy than to see that His children walk in the Truth. Wisdom brings order. The more we understand the Word, the more we see that He orders our steps. Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” Whether or not we realize it at the time, God knows each step we take and directs us according to His will for our lives. He creates divine appointments that cannot be explained apart from His doing. Thank Him for ordering your steps! Allow the Wisdom of the Word to bring gladness and joy to you today. “The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.” God does not promise that the way of the righteous would be easy, for His Word tells us that our days are few and full of trouble. Job 14:1 “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.” However, He does keep His promise that when His children seek to find the way in which they should go He would make it plain. Proverbs 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” As we place our trust in Him, exchanging our understanding for His Wisdom, He promises to direct us. Seeking His will for our lives must be a conscious and constant decision. Psalm 5:8 “Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.” Psalm 27:11 “Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.” When we seek His direction, we will find it…for He is the Way. “A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.” We have the choice to stir up strife or settle it. Our control over our flesh is what makes the difference. James 1:19-20 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” The flesh creates strife and thrives in the midst of it. Evil seeks to corrupt and consume the vulnerability of our flesh. We are weak in our own strength, and likely to fall when we face the wiles of the devil without the armor of God to defend us. James 3:14-16 “But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” The fruit of the Spirit defuses strife because it takes two to fight. When we yield to the Him, we will see His fruit within our life and testimony. Our weakness can be made strong as we seek to decrease ourselves so that He may increase. James 3:17-18 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” We must evaluate whether we are stirring or settling the strife around and within us. “Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.” Little is much when we fear the Lord. No amount of riches can suffice if there is no fear of Him. Psalm 37:16 “A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.” Wisdom is better. Proverbs 15:17 “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.” Love is found within the little things when we have a right perspective of God, for God is Love. 1 John 4:10,16 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins…And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” Wisdom is better. Make the choice to choose Wisdom today. “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” When we are joyful, it shows. True joy can only be found in one place, or rather in one Person. Romans 5:11 “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” When our heart rejoices in Christ Jesus our Lord, we are filled with joy unspeakable and a peace that passes all understanding. Romans 15:13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” We can be joyful because we are forgiven. Our joy should cause us to want to live more like Him. Romans 4:7 “Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.” We can be joyful because we can trust Him. Our joy should cause us to want to love Him more. Psalm 5:11 “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” We can be joyful because we have His Word. Our joy should cause us to want to know more of the Truth through the Scriptures. Jeremiah 15:16 “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” A merry heart awaits us when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, and yield each day to His will for our lives. “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.” Our prayers are delightful to the Lord. As we delight in Him, He also delights in us. Psalm 18:19 “He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.” Our obedience shows our love for Him, for He loved us first. 1 John 4:19 “We love him, because he first loved us.” When we choose to disobey or neglect to do right, He corrects us in love. Proverbs 15:10-12 “Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die. Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.” Disobedience leads to destruction. Our souls are safe in Him, but our testimony is a direct result of how we choose to live for a Him. Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Will you make the choice to let His correction make your light shine brighter for His glory? “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.” Do we despise instruction or regard reproof? It’s the difference between trouble or treasure. Oftentimes we are unaware of our need to be corrected. When everything we do is right within our own eyes, we are headed down a dead end road. We can either choose to enjoy God’s instruction and correction, or endure it. He may use a circumstance to get your attention, or He may use a person to speak Words of Wisdom to your heart. Though it may hurt at first, their godly counsel is for your good. Proverbs 27:9 “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.” Instead of enduring God’s correction, we can choose to be thankful that He loves us enough to instruct us. Job 5:17-18 “Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.” When we live as though His reproof is confirmation that we are His, we can be joyful as He molds us to be more like Him.
