Proverbs 17:9
“He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.” The Love of God covers all sins. We can find and give forgiveness because of Him. 1 John 4:7-11 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” We do well when we forgive those that have wronged us. Christ commands us to do so, for if we do not show mercy and forgiveness to others, we will not receive it ourselves. However, sometimes when we forgive a person they repeat the injustice toward us again which begins to separate that which was restored. Matthew 18:21-22 “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” As often as we are wronged, the more often we must forgive. Christ said to forgive not just seven times, but seventy times seven. He also said that we must turn the other cheek to those who have smitten us. Matthew 5:38-39 “Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” We show the love of Christ by giving those who have wronged us another chance. He wants us to show them mercy and grace just as He has shown us. Matthew 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” We best display the love of God when we love and forgive those who have wronged us. Proverbs 17:7
“Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince. The Gospel of the Word of God is the most excellent speech that can ever be uttered; yet fools cannot truly speak of that which they do not possess. Psalm 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” The wicked cannot declare the Gospel by experience, yet the Word of God will never return void. Anytime the Truth is presented, His Word will accomplish what He intended. Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” The Gospel speaks of the Gift that God has given to the world that He loves so much. The free Gift of eternal life is found in His Son, Jesus Christ. All who confess and believe in His death, burial and resurrection will find salvation. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” The Gift of Salvation is precious in the eyes of all who have received Him. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Proverbs 17:8 “A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.” Bible Reading: Hosea 1-3 | Hebrews 10 | Proverbs 10 Proverbs 17:6
“Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.” Children and grandchildren can bring joy to their families as they choose wisely in their endeavors. Psalm 127:3-5 “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” Whether or not God has given us the privilege of having children, as God’s children we all have the opportunity and the duty to be fruitful and multiply spiritual children. Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” As children of Wisdom, God did not save us to keep the Good News of the Gospel to ourselves. We have the privilege and obligation to tell others in order for them to know Him. John 15:8 “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” Bring our Heavenly Father glory by sharing His Gift with someone else. “A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.” What we allow ourselves to listen to says as much about us as what we say. Our ears must be wise to disregard anything that is contrary to the Truth. Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” What we hear often affects our thoughts; therefore we must seek to listen to that which is good. Our hearing affects our thinking, which in turn affects our actions. Proverbs 17:5 “Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.” God made us all in His image. Regardless of our wealth, race, or gender, He created us for a reason. He loves the world, and we must show His love to each other, especially those in need. 1 John 3:16-17 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” We must listen wisely so that we can show the love of God to one another. “A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren. Wisdom always wins against foolishness. The Lord tries our actions and motives as the Refiner of our hearts. He knows when we are acting wise or foolish. Proverbs 17:3 “The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.” Just as a son will always be a son, our relationship with God cannot change after it has been established. It is our fellowship with Him that is dependent upon our actions. Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” We must submit our wicked hearts to Him each day and seek to live a crucified life. He sees what is in our hearts and desires to make us more like Him. Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” When we die to ourselves, we begin to truly live by faith in what Christ did for us. “Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.” It is better to be satisfied with a little, than find ourselves and our families filled with strife. Psalm 37:16 “A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.” Material goods only last so long, because they have no eternal value. We must shift our focus from what we have to Who we have. When we have Jesus Christ everything we have is enough, for He is all we need. Philippians 4:11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Contentment is a rarity in our world today; most likely because of the Wisdom and understanding it requires. The more time we spend within the Word of God, the more content we become. 1 Timothy 6:6 “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” Evaluate the level of your contentment today. If you could use some more, you know Where to find it. Bible Reading: Daniel 5-6 | Hebrews 6 | Proverbs 6 Proverbs 16:31-33
“The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.” The older we get, the closer we are to seeing our Saviour face to face. While we wait, we have the opportunity to shine our lights brighter for Him. Proverbs 14:29 “He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.” Temperance is a part of the fruit of the Spirit, which we cultivate through great understanding of the Word of God. When we have self-control we exhibit great strength, which is not of our own. 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” God orders our steps and creates divine appointments within our lives and through our lives. There is no coincidence or accidents with Him. Everything happens for a reason and is ordained by Him. Whatever your situation today, you have an opportunity to shine for His glory and show His strength. Bible Reading: Daniel 3-4 | Hebrews 5 | Proverbs 5 Proverbs 16:27-30
“An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.” A lack of wisdom leads to destruction. When we neglect to allow the Lord to work through us, our flesh gets the victory. Digging up the dirt of the lives of others is ungodly. The information found can burn us alive before it destroys anyone else. James 3:5 “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!” Sowing strife is dangerous and breeds confusion. The strife we sow can separate us from even those we hold dear to our hearts. James 3:16 “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” Deceiving others is a fruit of ungodliness. Those around us may not see for who we really are, but God does. People only see our outward appearance, while God sees our hearts. Galatians 6:7-8 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Leading others away from the Truth is happening all around us today. Biblical discernment is the only way to distinguish between what is true or false. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” When we lack godly wisdom we find ourselves surrounded by evil, strife, and confusion. This is why we must renew our minds each day through the Truth of the Word of God, for it is there where we find Wisdom to change our actions. “He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.” We must work for that which we need or want. He that does not work does not eat. We must eat to live. Our bodies require the nourishment of food to give us strength and energy. Likewise, our spiritual lives need nourishment that is only found by seeking the Lord through His Word. Jesus told His disciples that they must work to find the unending Truths within the Word of God. John 5:39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” It is in His Word that we learn more about Jesus and how to become more like Him. Oh that we would hunger to seek and know Him more each day. Psalm 63:1-3 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.” What are you hungry for? Bible Reading: Ezekiel 47-48 | Hebrews 3 | Proverbs 3 Proverbs 16:25
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” This same verse is found just two chapters beforehand: Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” God only has to say something once to make it True, yet sometimes He chooses to repeat Himself for our benefit. We tend to be forgetful, while God is all knowing. In His mercy, He gracefully reminds us when He speaks the same Truth again for us to understand it. Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Our deceitful hearts often convince us that we know what is right for us. This deception leads to desperation and ultimately death. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Depending upon ourselves or yielding to our flesh will always end in disappointment. There is a better Way. Psalm 119:1 “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.” We must choose to stop and turn to Jesus for He knows what is best. His Word lights the way, for He is the Way. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Decide today to seek Him in all that that you do, yielding your way to Him.
