Proverbs 30:11-4
“There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.” There is a generation that does not honor their parents. There is a generation that is hypocritical in their behavior. There is a generation that is proud in their own eyes. There is a generation that is cruel and greedy. Sound much like the day we are living in? Throughout the Scriptures we read of generation after generation whose legacy should cause us to emulate or evade. Romans 15:4 “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” God has promised to preserve His Word to every generation. This gives each generation hope to succeed. With the Scriptures at our disposal, we have everything that we need in order to be who God has made us to be and fulfill His purpose for our lives. Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” God has chosen His people for His glory. We are chosen, and we have been chosen to be a peculiar people because we are called to be royal and holy. Each generation that did not please the Lord was unholy and carnal. 1 Peter 2:9-10 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” There is a generation to come. It is up to us to set an example for those that will come after us. We are responsible for teaching the next generation the praises of the Lord. Psalm 78:4-7 “We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:” There is a generation.
