John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God gave His Only Begotten Son so that we might have life, the ultimate example of giving. It was within His power to give Jesus Christ as our Saviour. He did not withhold Himself from giving what He had to give. He gave so that we could also give, and He expects the same from us. Proverbs 3:27-28 “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.” He wants us to give cheerfully. 2 Corinthians 9:7 “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” The more we give, the more we will receive. 2 Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Jesus told us that it is more blessed to give than to receive. We often desire to receive; yet we neglect to give. We expect others to show us love and mercy, yet we how often we fail to extend the same grace in return. Acts 20:35 “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” God tells us time and time again that it is wise to give.
