Psalm 119:153
“Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law.” In the middle of his affliction, David prayed to be delivered. He remembered what he had read and been taught from the Scriptures. Psalm 119:50 “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.” Psalm 119:71 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.” How comforting it is that when we find ourselves facing affliction, we can ask the Lord to help us! Remembering the Word amidst our affliction will bring deliverance. James 5:13-17 “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” God may not take the circumstance away, but His Word can deliver our souls from the pain while shifting our focus toward our Deliverer. Psalm 34:17-19 “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must remember the Word amidst our affliction.
