Matthew 17:19
“Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?” We blame toddlers and teenagers for asking the question, “Why can’t we…”, the most often, but the truth of the matter is that adults ask just as frequently. Our answer to the younger generation is usually “for your own good” or “just do as I say”. Yet so often we neglect our own preaching. When the disciples asked Jesus, “Why could not we…”, it was not for their own good or because they just needed to obey what He said. It was their unbelief. Matthew 17:20 “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” They missed out on seeing miracles take place simply because they did not believe it would happen. Jesus even explained to them that if they just had a little faith nothing would be impossible. But they doubted…ultimately, they doubted Him. They doubted what He could do in and through them if only they would believe. When we believe that with Him anything is possible, we will begin to see the mountains in our lives begin to move. Matthew 17:21 “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” He wants us to seek Him in faith. When we doubt that He will do what He said, we miss out on so much more than just our need. Unbelief has consequences. Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 9-10 | Colossians 1
