Proverbs 23:13-14
“Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.” One of the greatest ways a parent expresses love for their children is by teaching them the difference between right and wrong. Proverbs 3:11-12 “My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” What love is shown when a child is permitted to do wrong? Proverbs 13:24 “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” God chastens His children because He loves us. When we realize that there is purpose and Wisdom in correction, we experience firsthand that God in love desires only what is best for us. The Word of God speaks the Truth of right and wrong, but we must willingly hear and apply that Truth to our lives. When we neglect the Word of Wisdom, we miss out on knowing how to correct ourselves. Hebrews 12:5-9 “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?” Thank Him today for His correcting Wisdom.
