We now begin our study on the second part of the Book of Proverbs. Over the next several chapters we find verse after verse that are a distich or couplet which contain two separate lines to make up one statement. These often have parallelisms so that feature a two opposing thoughts, many of which feature the familiar comparison of the wise and the foolish. There is something in each comparison that the Lord has for us to learn.
Proverbs 10:1 “The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.” Which do we desire to bring to our parents? Gladness or heaviness? Make the choice today to seek the Wisdom of God through His Word. Proverbs 10:2 “Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.” If we live for the treasures of this world, we will not find happiness or anything worthwhile for more than a season. The treasures we lay up on this earth will end up corrupted, for they are not eternal. There is no one righteous on their own. The righteousness that is found in Jesus Christ is our only hope. He is that Gift of God that brings us eternal life and delivers us from the death we deserve. Take time to carefully observe the Truth within each contrast of the Proverbs and compare that which is wise and that which is foolish. Ask the Lord to speak to your heart and show you something new that you can apply to your life as you walk with Him. Bible Reading: Isaiah 1-2 | Revelation 15 | Proverbs 11
