Deuteronomy 10:12-13
“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?” To require something of someone is to ask them to do something. Parents ask their children to clean their rooms and respect their elders. Teachers ask their students to pay attention to the lesson and do their best on their assignments. What has the Lord asked of us? We find five simple instructions in our verses today that the Lord told Moses to speak unto the children of Israel that He also is asking of us. Fear the Lord. “fear the LORD thy God” Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Walk in the Way of the Lord. “walk in all his ways” Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Love the Lord. “love him” Psalm 31:23 “O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.” Serve the Lord. “serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul” Psalm 100:2 “Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” Obey the Word of the Lord. “To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes” Jeremiah 42:6 “Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.” These five principles can vastly change our lives if we will simple be willing to do what the Lord has asked of us.
