Psalm 119:111
“Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.” We all have a heritage. Although we cannot decide what is left for us, we can contribute to what we leave to those who follow us. What does our heritage consist of? We get to choose what we leave behind. Will we leave a heritage of the world or of the Word? 1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” If we carry the heritage of the world on to the next generation, they will be consumed with lust and pride. Though it already sounds like the world in which we live today, we have the opportunity to stand for the truth of the Word of God and carry His Word on to our children. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Our heritage of the Word of God shows the importance of the Word to us. Whether we make His Word a priority or only consult the Scripture after we have tried everything else, our walk for the Lord will display our heritage. The Heritage of Portion Psalm 16:5-6 “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.” The Heritage of Protection Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” Just as we have a heritage, God has preserved His Word throughout the ages by people who gave their lives so that we could have the Scriptures today. Too often we take for granted the heritage of the Word that we hold within our hands. What if it were left to just us to carry the Word to someone else? If we will not do it, someone else will. If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must take part in the heritage of the Word of God. Bible Reading: Judges 9-10 | Acts 22 | Psalm 80
