Matthew 10:27
“What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.” It is within the dark and stormy nights of our lives that we learn to seek God in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” The Lord speaks peace to our hearts in the darkest times, and teaches us lessons that we would not have learned otherwise. God uses the darkness to point us to the Light. Sometimes God sends a storm so that we will seek shelter in Him. The word “darkness” here refers to in secret, private. The times when we seek what God has to say, and He reveals His Truth to us in a way we have never experienced before. The sleeplessness that comes from God’s Word instilling Itself within our souls and changing us to be more like Jesus Christ. The quiet nights when the Scripture speaks so loudly that we are in awe of the Word of God. In contrast, the word “light” here refers to that which is exposed to the view of all, openly, publicly. What we learn and experience in the darkness is to be shared openly. We are to freely share the Truths we learn during our alone time with the Lord. When the Holy Spirit opens our hearts and eyes to a deeper Truth of God’s Word it is sure to help us, but maybe that Truth is just what someone else needs in their situation. Often times God can use a caring friend who feels led to share with us a Truth that the Lord showed them. Share with your friends, and encourage them to likewise share with you what God is revealing to them through His Word. It will strengthen your friendship.
