Matthew 6:30
“Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” Notice the last two words…”little faith”. Only five times do we find these two words together within the pages of Scripture, and each time they are written in red…spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 6:30; 8:26; 14:31; 16:8 Luke 12:28 When we use the word little, we typically refer to the volume or mass of an object; but Jesus was not referring to the size of their faith. Each time He speaks them in reference to one subject…doubt. Two times He is on a mountain speaking to the multitudes. Two times He is in a ship on the stormy sea. One time He rebuked the disciples for neglecting to remember what He had done for them in the past. The miracles that they not only witnessed, but He wrought through their hands. We can find ourselves doubting when we are on a spiritual mountain, in the middle of a storm, or simply when we forget all that He has done for us. It was not about the size of faith, but rather their lack of faith. Mark 4:40 “And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” Jesus further proves this later in Matthew when He refers to having faith the size of a grain of mustard seed. Matthew 17:20 “And Jesus said unto them…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Have you ever seen a mustard seed? It is not large in size whatsoever, in fact, it is tiny. Any amount of faith in Him makes a difference. Simply because of Who we place of faith in. He did it before, and He will do it again. May we have faith that He is always Faithful. Bible Reading: Ruth 4 | Romans 5
