Mark 12:42
“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. She. She did not have what seemed like much to give. Luke 21:1-2 “And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.” In comparison, her amount did not seem like much. Luke 21:3-4 “And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.” She gave more. Her gift was a sacrifice instead of a service. Mark 12:43-44 “And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” She gave all she had. The Widow With Two Mites serves as an example that little is much when God is in it. May we choose to willingly give all we have so that He would be glorified. Mark 6:19
“Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:” She. She was one of the most wicked women. She quarreled against John the Baptist for calling out Herod for their sin together. Mark 6:17-18 “For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her. For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.” She plotted against him even through Herod feared him. Mark 6:20 “For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.” She hated the man of God for exposing her sin. She chose to use her daughter to manipulate Herod to do as she pleased. Mark 6:22 “And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.” She told her daughter to ask for John’s head. Mark 6:24 “And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.” She eventually got what she wanted. Mark 6:27-28 “And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.” She murdered a man of God. She is the Jezebel of the New Testament. Herodias serves as an example of the disgrace that lust and sin brings to a life consumed with pride. Sin has its consequences. James 1:15 “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Bible Reading: Ezekiel 43-44 | Mark 16 | Psalm 99-100 Mark 5:27
“When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.” She. She had heard that He had healed many people of their infirmities. Luke 8:43 “And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,” She had heard of Jesus. Who told her about Him? The Scriptures do not tell us specifically who told this woman of Jesus, but someone did. That person told her of the Solution to her twelve-year long problem. He was the Answer to her need. Matthew 9:20 “And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:” She had faith in Him. Mark 5:28 “For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” She was healed because someone told her of Him. Mark 5:34 “And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” The Woman With An Issue Of Blood also serves as an example of the importance of telling others about Jesus. “When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.” She. She sacrificed for a purpose. Matthew 26:6-7 “Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.” She received ridicule for what she did. Matthew 26:8-9 “But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.” She knew He would not be with them much longer. Matthew 26:11 “For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.” She gave the Saviour everything she had. Matthew 26:12 “For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.” She will always be remembered for her sacrifice. Matthew 26:13 “Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.” Mary of Bethany serves as an example that it pays to sacrifice for the Saviour. “And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.” She. She cried unto the Lord. Matthew 15:22 “And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.” She fell at His feet in both desperation and humility. Mark 7:25-26 “For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.” She did not receive an answer immediately. Matthew 15:23 “But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.” She was persistent despite the perceived silence of the Lord. Matthew 15:25 “Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.” His response did not shake her. Matthew 15:26 “But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.” Matthew 15:28 “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” She returned home and found her daughter healed. Mark 7:30 “And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.” The Syrophoenician Woman serves as an example of how we should be persistent in our faith. “And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.” She. She was the daughter of Herodias. Matthew 14:6-7 “But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.” She had danced for Herod on his birthday, and he promised to give her whatever she asked. She was unsure of what to ask, so she consulted her mother. Mark 6:24 “And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.” Matthew 14:8 “And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.” She had asked, and Herod gave her what she desired. Matthew 14:9-10 “And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.” She had a part in the death of the greatest prophet. The Daughter of Herodias serves as an example of how one sinful decision can alter our testimony. “For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.” She. She was desperate. Mark 5:25-26 “And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,” Luke 8:43 “And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,” She had tried everything and everyone, except Him. Matthew 9:20 “And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:” She believed all she had to do was touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. Mark 5:29 “And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.” Her single act of great faith resulted in the healing that she needed. Matthew 9:22 “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.” The Woman With An Issue Of Blood serves as an example of what can happen to us if we will simply have faith that one touch of Jesus can make a difference. “While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.” She. She needed healing. Her father came to Jesus and fell at His feet in desperation. Mark 5:22-23 “And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.” Luke 8:41-42 “And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.” Jarius had faith that Jesus could help her. He asked Him to come to where she was. Matthew 9:19 “And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.” On the way, someone came and delivered news that she was dead. Mark 5:35 “While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?” Jesus spoke peace to her father’s heart. Mark 5:36 “As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.” She arose when He touched her and spoke. Mark 5:41-42 “And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.” Jarius’ Daughter serves as an example of what can happen when we bring Jesus to others. “And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.” She. She was the mother-in-law of the Apostle Peter. She is proof that Peter had a wife. Matthew 8:14 “And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.” She was sick of a great fever. Luke 4:38 “And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.” Jesus touched her, and she was immediately healed. Mark 1:31 “And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.” Peter’s Mother In Law serves as an example of how one touch from the Master can transform us immediately. What a picture of the salvation that He so freely offers to all who believe on Him. John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Bible Reading: Ezekiel 29-30 | Mark 9 | Psalm 86-87 Matthew 1:21
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” She. She carried the Saviour into this world for a specific purpose. She was espoused to Joseph. The angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream telling of what was going to take place. Matthew 1:20 “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” She was highly favoured. Luke 1:28 “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” She heard of His greatness. Luke 1:32-33 “He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” She was willing. Luke 1:38 “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” Mary the Mother of Jesus also serves as an example that God can use us for a specific purpose. How willing are we?
