“And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.”
Simon Peter had decided that he was going to go fishing, and several of the disciples followed him. They all entered into the same ship, and that night they caught nothing.
“But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.”
They were focused on their own efforts…or lack thereof.
So much so, that they were unaware that the Resurrected Saviour stood before them.
“Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.”
The unrecognizable Voice gave them specific instructions, and they obeyed. When the net was miraculously full of fish, John knew it had to be the Lord.
Only He could provide such a multitude of fishes.
“Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.”
With their own efforts and focus, they were left emptyhanded; yet, under the Lord’s direction they had more than enough.
It was the direction of the Lord Jesus Christ that made the difference.
The same is true for us today… When we attempt to do the Lord’s work under our own power, we too will be left emptyhanded. Any work done in our flesh is all in vain.
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
Alternatively, when we seek the Lord, willfully follow His direction and allow Him to do the work through us, anything is possible.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Choose to obey His Word today, and discover the same Truth as the disciples…“ye shall find.”
“God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.” – Hudson Taylor
