Psalm 119:113
“I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.” The Lord knows our thoughts even if we never put them into words or actions. Psalm 94:11 “The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.” Our thoughts may be divided between the world and the Word. When we try to live half in the world and half in the Word, we are unstable and unusable for God’s glory. James 1:8 “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” God knows even the thoughts and intents of our hearts, and His Word divides them. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The more we love the Word of God, the more we will hate anything contrary to It. The Scriptures provide us with a defense against our thoughts before they consume us and cause us to do something we will regret. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must keep our thoughts in check through the Word of God.
