Matthew 4:20
“And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.” This was Peter and Andrew’s response when Jesus said unto them, “Follow me”. No explanation was given, they just decided to place faith in Who He was. The sons of Zebedee, James and John, had the same reaction when Jesus called them; and Scripture tells us they possibly gave up even more than the other brothers. Matthew 4:22 “And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.” Their faith to follow allowed them to see miracle after miracle that Jesus did as He went all about Galilee teaching and preaching. What if they had said no? Think of all they would have missed out on. We read of two men, in Luke 9, that made excuses for not following. Luke 9:59 “And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.” Luke 9:61 “And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.” Jesus’ response was clear and to the point. Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Are you using as an excuse today? Or are you looking back while attempting to do the work of the Lord? “And they straightway left their nets…” “And they immediately left the ship and their father…” Regardless of what you have to leave or give up, it is worth it to follow Him. Decide today that you are done making excuses. Decide that waiting until the “right time” is just a delay from seeing the miracle. Choose today to follow Him without delay. No looking back… look to Him in faith. Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Bible Reading: Judges 11-12 | Acts 25
