Psalm 119:116
“Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.” It is by God’s grace that we are able to stand at all. We are nothing and can do nothing without Him; yet, He chooses to hold us up through His Word. As we hope in His Word, we can be sure that His Word will not fail us. 1 Peter 1:23-25 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” His Word holds us up when we fall. Psalm 37:24 “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.” His Word holds us up when we are fearful. Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Whatever our circumstance, we can rest in God’s Word while standing by His grace. Romans 5:1-2 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must live as though we are upheld by the Word of God.
