Psalm 119:120
“My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.” The Psalmist was not afraid of his future, but rather the eternity of those that did not know the Lord. He trembled at the thought of the wrath of God being poured out on those around him. Can we say the same? John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” In Romans, the Apostle Paul pours out his heart for the same reason. He loved the people of Israel and wanted to see them saved, because he discerned that their profession was in vain. Romans 10:1-3 “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” Paul spoke of the difference between knowing of Christ and knowing Him personally. The people had the knowledge, but lacked faith to confess and believe. Romans 10:8-10 “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” We must have a burden to reach those around us that may know of Jesus and what He did for us, but lack a personal relationship with Him by simply confessing their sin and believing in Him by faith. The wrath of God awaits those that only have religion. Hebrews 4:1-2 “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must fear the wrath of God being poured out on those who do not know Him.
