August 25 - Familiar Wisdom.

Proverbs 7:4-5
“Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman: That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.”

The people we are most familiar and acquainted with are our family. We are often protective over our them, and vice versa. 

Our family is who we talk to the most, and those that we consult for advice and guidance. They speak comfort to us and provide companionship through the every day experiences of our lives.

Proverbs 4:6-8
“Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.”

We have the opportunity to be as familiar with the Wisdom of the Word of God as we are with our family members. God has preserved and given us His Word so that we may know Him.

Jeremiah 9:23-24
“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”

Rather than consulting a friend or relative first, allow the Scriptures be your first and final authority that any other godly counsel you receive is based upon.

Psalm 1:1-3
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
