Proverbs 30:21-23
“For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat; For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.” Many things in this world are disturbing. In these verses, the Scriptures dwell on three things that are disquieted or disturbing, while all four things mentioned are a burden to those around them. A servant is not meant to reign. A fool is never full of wisdom. An odious woman would make a hard wife to live with. A handmaid is not to take the place of a wife. Proverbs 19:10 “Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.” When a person who begins as a servant is entrusted with power and authority, there is often a season of disquietedness where they become proud and scornful. Things that are disturbing are often the exact opposite of what is expected or considered the norm. Consider what you find disturbing? How does it compare to the descriptions above? What are we to do amongst such disturbances? Cast the disturbances around you upon our Saviour today. 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” He desires to help you bear the burden you are facing, and promises to sustain you along the way. Psalm 55:22 “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Remember to pray and seek His will in every thing that you do. As you pray, thank Him for the headaches and heartaches that disturbances cause, for without them we could not grow as close to or become more like Him. Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Bible Reading: Job 41-42 | Revelation 1 | Proverbs 27
