Proverbs 17:17
“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Adversity can build, strengthen or break a friendship. Anyone can be a friend when all is fun and games, but real friends appear or stick around when skies are gray. Good times and bad times. Sunshine and rain. Friends are loyal, trustworthy, faithful, and reliable. “A friend loveth at all times…” True friendship is a constant. It withstands a change of circumstance or location, willing to endure any storm. “…and a brother is born for adversity.” True friendship is revealed in adversity. It is in the midst of a trial, that the strength of our relationships is exposed. No selfishness, but willingness to sacrifice. Time spent is not a luxury, but a priority. Nothing is inconvenient, if it is needed. Friends should sharpen our relationship with the Lord. Friends should counsel and encourage us with the Word of God. Jesus Christ is our ultimate example of true friendship. He never changes. He is always available. He will never leave us or forsake us. Nothing can separate us from His love. Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” True friendship is built and strengthened by Wisdom.
