February 17 - Lift Our Hands.

Psalm 119:48
“My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.”
 
Loving the Word will cause us to reach for the Word of God. There is nothing like holding the Scriptures in our hands. We have the choice to use our hands in honour of the God of the Bible.
 
Lifting Our Hands In Praise
Within Scripture we read of people displaying their respect and reverence to the Lord by raising their hands. May we also praise Him as we read of what He has done for us through His Word.
 
Nehemiah 8:5-6
“And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up: And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.”
 
Lifting Our Hands In Practice
Our faith is developed as we hear the Word of God, but the Lord desires us to be more than hearers. Our hands enable us to be a doer of the Word by putting our faith in action by doing what the Bible says.
 
James 1:22-25
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
 
Our hands have purpose…to glorify the One Who created them. We have the opportunity to share the Gospel using the hands that God gave us. We can also spread His love by lending a hand to those in need. May we lift our hands for Him!
 
If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must lift our hands in praise & practice of the Word of God.
