Exodus 14:1-2
“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.” The children of Israel had finally been released from bondage in Egypt. God had led them through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. Exodus 13:18 “But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.” They had faithfully followed the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. Exodus 13:21-22 “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.” The Lord then gave Moses further specific instructions for them to follow. “…turn and encamp…” He directed them to turn away from the land they had set out to obtain. This did not make logical sense, so doubt and fear took over. Exodus 14:12 “Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” The Lord knew what He was doing, but He did not reveal His plan to them. They were instructed to pitch their tents by the sea… the Red Sea. God placed them by the very place where He would soon deliver them; yet, they were unaware of His divine providence and protection that was about to take place. Imagine if they had given up and refused to follow His direction that day? Sometimes, the Lord will direct us down a path that does not make any sense to us at the time. He wants us to trust Him by faith and simply follow Him. It is often right before deliverance comes that our flesh wants to throw in the towel the most. The devil wants us to quit when we are so close to victory. The Lord knew that sea beside them would soon be divided into walls of water so that they could walk across on dry ground. They did not know any of what was about to take place, but He did. He sees what we don’t. The Lord has foresight for what lies ahead. Exodus 14:13 “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.” Do not quit today, Christian. Deliverance is on the way. Bible Reading: Leviticus 21-22 | Luke 8
