Psalm 119:36
“Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.” It is not a natural thing for our hearts to crave the Word of God. Even as born again believers, we are still wrapped in the flesh and our hearts are still wicked. Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Our hearts are wicked, but because Christ lives in us we are new creatures through Him. He can give us the desire to want to know more through His Word. Proverbs 2:2 “So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;” We can choose to apply our hearts to the Word of God, and develop a yearning for the Truth. Ask the Lord to give you a desire for the Word. 1 Peter 2:2-3 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must desire the Word of God so that we can grow in Him each day.
