Psalm 119:37
“Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.” We must choose to look away when confronted with sin. In the world that we live in today, there is vanity all around us. What we see with our eyes affects the condition of our heart. In the Book of Ecclesiastes we see chapter after chapter of the regret of Solomon having chosen the vain things of this world. Ecclesiastes 1:14 “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.” Rather than living in vanity, we must choose to allow the Word of God to strengthen us to continue walking with and for the Lord Jesus Christ. Colossians 3:1-2 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Philippians 3:13-14 “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must remind ourselves that all is vanity, and allow the Word of God to be our guide.
