Proverbs 20:23
“Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.” A repeated Truth from earlier in the chapter that only further confirms the importance of avoiding divers weights for honesty. God wants us to be honest with Him, with others, and with ourselves. Proverbs 20:24 “Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?” Our steps are ordered by Him; He did not create in us the ability to know on our own what is good for us. Jeremiah 10:23 “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” Our hearts may devise us to go in the way of the world, but thankfully the Lord is Able and willing to direct our steps if only we allow Him to do so. Proverbs 16:19 “A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” When we try to understand which way to go on our own, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment and destruction. Why take that responsibility upon ourselves when He, by His grace, desires to direct us according to His will? Rather than trying to understand, yield to Him today.
