Psalm 119:11
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Here we find the solution to not wandering in sin. If we hide God’s Word within our hearts, we will be more prepared to resist the temptations of the devil. He does not desire to hide the Word in his mind, for knowledge will fail. He desires to hide God’s Word within his heart. Hiding the Word in your heart is to apply it to your life. “Thy word have I hid” Nothing but the Word of God will keep us from sin. “in mine heart” We must apply the Word to our hearts for it to change our lives. “that I might not sin” We must purposefully decide in our hearts to disregard the pleasures of sin. “against thee.” When we sin, we are displeasing God. We desire to please those we love, do we not desire to please God? Only the Word of God can keep us from sin. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He did not use the words of man to resist him, He quoted Scripture. He showed us how we can defend ourselves against the wiles of the devil. Matthew 4:10 “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we hide the Word of God in our hearts to keep us from sin.
