Psalm 119:23
“Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.” No matter who chooses to speak against or about us, we can choose to focus on what God has to say in His Word. Despite what was being said about him, the Psalmist did not let it distract him from seeking help from the Lord. 1 Samuel 30:6 “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” We can choose to follow David’s example that in times when he was discouraged and distressed he sought encouragement from the Lord. He knew that within the Word of God was the answer to his problem. How do you encourage yourself in times of distress? What is your first resource for help? Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” If we want the Lord to order our steps in times of discouragement or distress, we must seek to be encouraged by the Word of God.
