Psalm 119:24
“Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.” In just these nine words, we find so much Truth about the Blessed Book we hold in our hands. We see here two purposes of the Scripture that we must apply to our lives. “Thy testimonies also are my delight” The Word of God can comfort us. In the darkness of night or the dreariness of the day, we can be comforted if we will open our Bible. It is wonderful to know that comfort can be found in times of distress. Psalm 94:19 “In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” The world offers only temporary relief from our problems. Comfort brings peace; but true peace only comes from God. Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” “Thy testimonies also are…my counselors.” The Word of God can counsel us. Along with comfort, the Bible offers instruction and correction. Sometimes we need to be told we are wrong, and it is up to us to take heed to the Truth. Proverbs 6:22-23 “When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:” We can choose to ignore the instruction or apply the correction to our hearts, and allow God to use our lives for His glory. Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must seek both comfort & counsel from the Word of God.
