Proverbs 20:8-9
“A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes. Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?” Who could say that? What a prideful and very incorrect judgment. Job 14:4 “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” Job had it right. Since there is nothing good about us, we cannot make ourselves clean. To say that we are pure from sin erases any pureness about us and replaces it with pride. Proverbs 14:3 “In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.” Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” How dangerous it is to proclaim to be anything on our own. We are nothing outside of what God has done for us in His gift of His only begotten Son so that anyone in the world could believe on Him. Ecclesiastes 7:20 “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” 1 Corinthians 4:4 “For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.” Our righteousness is as filthy rags compared to the Holy Righteous God we claim to serve. If we dare to declare that we had even a fraction to do with our salvation, we have no salvation at all. 1 John 1:8-10 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” Bible Reading: Exodus 3-4 | Matthew 6 | Proverbs 27
