January 31 - A Precious Jewel.

Proverbs 20:14
“It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.”
 
We often pride ourselves when we find a good bargain, often neglecting to consider the outcome for the seller.
 
God did not devalue us when He chose to give His only begotten Son so that we could believe on Him.
 
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
 
He knew what Price was required and paid willingly.
We are bought with a high price, the blood and life of the very Son of God, Jesus Christ. We have nothing to boast about of our own merit or value, but only in what He did for us.
 
Proverbs 20:15
“There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.”
 
Biblical understanding is worth far greater than any piece of gold or collection of jewelry. The great cost that God paid so that we could know Him and have His Word is worth more than any material object in this world.
 
Job 28:12-18
“But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.”
 
The possession of Wisdom today is a very rare thing, a precious jewel.
May we consider just how rare of a Gift we have within us today.
