Proverbs 18:23
“The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.” God has a purpose in every thing, even poverty. In the poorest of times, financially or otherwise, our spirits are more yielded to God and yearning for Him to move. We tend to be more humble when we need something from God. Where there is no need, we rely on ourselves rather than on the One that provided everything we have. Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Every friendship requires us to be friendly, but especially our friendship with Christ. He called us His friends; do we consider Him our Friend? John 15:15 “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” Any true friendship is worth contributing to, but how much more so is one with the Son of God, Jesus Christ! He is willing to be closer to us than any one else. John 15:5-8 “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” We long for closeness and friendship, often looking in all the wrong places. Run to Jesus today, He is waiting with open arms, just as He was when He died on the cross for the sins of the world. Bible Reading: Genesis 7-8 | John 4 | Proverbs 4
