Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Substance here is defined as that which has foundation, is firm; the substantial quality or nature of a person or thing; the steadfastness of mind, courage, resolution; confidence and assurance. When cross referencing the Greek word hypostasis used here, we find it used in the first chapter of Hebrews. Hebrews 1:3 “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” That Person referenced here is none other than our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The word hypostasis is also used in this verse for “his person”. We learn here that without faith in Jesus Christ we have no substance. We can have hope because of our faith in Him. Through Him all the promises of God are made real to us, for without Him we cannot experience any. Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” It is because of that Gift of God we are saved, through our faith in His finished work. We can have substance today through faith in Him! Bible Reading: I Chronicles 15-16 | Colossians 4 | Proverbs 2
