At the root of a lack of trust in and acknowledgement of the Lord is our pride, which God hates. The Scriptures warn us many times about the consequences of being proud.
1 Corinthians 10:12 “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” Isaiah 5:21 “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” Our pride must be defeated before we can even ask for wisdom from God. We must neglect our own understanding while clinging to His. Proverbs 3:7-8 “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” Where there is no fear of Him, there is no wisdom. Those who feel they are wise within themselves are truly not wise at all. God resists those that are proud. If we are willing to empty ourselves of our pride, He will freely fill us with His grace. James 4:5-6 “Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” The god of this world cannot have the soul of the child of God, but he desires to use our flesh to tempt us to evil. We will find no wisdom within ourselves. It is only through the Wisdom of the Word that we can defeat the evil of our enemy. James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When Satan tempted Jesus, He only used one defense, ”for it is written…” Depart from evil today by clinging to the Wisdom of the Word of God.
