Joshua 3:4
“Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.” Unprecedented times cause us to react in one of two ways…fight or flight. We can choose to stay and venture by faith through the unknown, or we can run and hide away in fear. They had not been in this place or situation before. Joshua was used of the Lord to lead the children of Israel after the death of Moses. His response to his uncharted territory is an example of how we should also conduct ourselves in uncertain times. Joshua 3:5 “And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.” His first two words made all the difference. He knew that they must set themselves apart to seek the Lord and allow Him alone to lead them. The people followed Joshua because He followed the Lord. The Lord blessed his leadership because it was solely focused on what the Lord would have them to do and where He wanted them to go. Joshua 3:7 “And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.” The Lord was with Him. Joshua yielded himself to the Lord, which allowed Him to do great things in and through him. “…Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.” When we are in uncharted territory, may we realize there is opportunity for the Lord to do great things.
