Psalm 119:169
“Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word.” The Lord hears our prayers when we cry unto Him. When we come into His presence, He hears our voice even if we do not utter any words. He hears our hearts. Psalm 18:6 “In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.” Psalm 61:1-2 “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. The question is what is our intent when we cry unto Him? When we are distressed or overwhelmed, we must choose how we respond in our prayers. Complaining, pleading, and asking are forms of crying out to the Lord; but notice what was asked for in today’s verse,“…give me understanding according to thy word.” When we cry unto the Lord, we must appraise the nature of our prayer. He hears our complaints, our pleas for deliverance, as well as our asking for understanding while enduring our affliction. Such wisdom can only found within the pages of the Word of God. Proverbs 2:6 “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must evaluate our cry unto Him based upon the Word of God.
