Psalm 119:158
“I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.” David hated the sin of those around him. He had a burden for others to know and obey the Word of God. Psalm 119:136 “Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.” He was grieved not because of their treatment of him, but rather their violation toward God. Their offense was dishonoring and disheartening to anyone striving to bring glory to Him. Where are our tears? We have lost our sorrow over our own sin as well as the sin of others. Those that profess to be religious, yet walk not in the Ways of the Lord. Actions speak louder than words or professions. Psalm 139:21,23-24 “Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Our sorrow is not to be judgmental, but rather out of concern for the souls of others. Those who live in sin without the chastening hand of the Lord upon their lives are likely living without the Saviour. Deception by religion is prevalent in our churches today. Head knowledge without heart knowledge is to be tragically lost. Matthew 7:20-23 “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” May we renew our burden to shine the Light of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ for all the world to hear, but it all starts with our view of sin. Psalm 119:104 “Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must be grieved by sin.
