James 4:6
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Notice the contrast that we see here…the proud & the humble. God takes a specific action with each of these. He resists the proud, but He gives to the humble. He will not give to those who think they deserve something. But those that acknowledge that the do not deserve anything, it is to them that the Lord gives. Not only does He give to the humble, notice the significance of the gift…His grace. The same grace that bringeth salvation and appeared to all men. The same grace by which we are saved. This grace is a Gift. We must acknowledge that we cannot save ourselves, and that we are totally dependent on the finished work of Christ. There is no salvation without humility. When we clothe ourselves in humility, God will bless us. He will give to those that are humble. His Word has promised. 1 Peter 5:5 “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” Humble yourself and wait. God will give you grace. Matthew Henry noted, “He will especially give more grace to the humble, because they see their need of it, will pray for it and be thankful for it; and such shall have it.” See your need for this gift of grace. Pray for it, and be thankful when God gives you what you need. Bible Reading: I Kings 15-16 | II Corinthians 10 | Psalm 129
