Proverbs 22:26-27
“Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?” Biblical stewardship is such a vital part of the Christian life. How we handle what God has given us says so much about the condition of our hearts. God warns us not to spend more than we have and also not to be a surety for someone if we do not have the means. If we have nothing to pay, we have no reason to promise; yet so often we see these principles misused and even blatantly disobeyed today. Creditors are not nearly as forgiving of our earthly debts as God is of our debt to Him. God tells us to give as He gave. When we give sacrificially and with the faith that God will bless us as we obey His leading, we are sure to see Him bring to pass much more than we could ever desire. Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” The more we follow His direction, the more we will realize and believe that He is Able to do so much more than we can even comprehend. Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Many work in order to pay a debt that they cannot pay, rather than simply believing on Jesus Christ that gave His life so that we could live. Romans 4:4-5 “Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” There may be times when we have nothing to pay an earthly debt, but we can still have joy because we need nothing to pay for our sins if we place our faith in Him. Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 1-2 | Mark 4 | Proverbs 18
