Psalm 119:89
“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” God has promised that He would preserve His Word for all generations. Through the fires of worldly attacks, the Word will endure them all. Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” The word “preserved” here refers to watching, keeping, and guarding. God has and is carefully watching, keeping, and guarding His Word from the changes and choices of man. At the end of the very last chapter, we find a warning for those who dare to add or take away from the preserved Word of God. Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” In a world where modern “versions” are constantly made, we must not be confused about what Is or isn’t the Word of God. God is not the Author of confusion; therefore there must be a clear choice for His preserved Word. No matter what may come our way, we can choose to stand upon what never changes. Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” His Word is settled because It contains the Gospel. The love of God is most truly shown in the giving of His Son, Jesus Christ; our faith in His death, burial, and resurrection is how and why we can have a relationship with God. We cannot have faith in Him without first hearing from His Word. 1 Peter 1:25 “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must stand firm on the settled Word of God.
