“I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.”
After praying, pleading, and praising throughout the chapter, the Psalmist uses the last verse to summarize the previous ongoing theme.
“I have gone astray like a lost sheep…”
We must acknowledge our condition before God.
Our relationship cannot change, but our fellowship can fluctuate like a rollercoaster.
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
He is our Shepherd, we are His sheep.
“…seek thy servant…”
Acknowledging our need for assistance is only the first step. We must then ask for the Lord’s intervention.
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”
He waits until we ask, but He never fails to rescue His sheep once we are willing to be found. He then willingly leads us in the right direction.
“…for I do not forget thy commandments.”
Even when we go astray in our walk with the Lord, our respect and love for His Word remains within us.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
The Word of God and His promises bring us comfort unlike anything else can.
When all else fails, His Word remains.
