Proverbs 22:7-9
“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.” What we do with what we are given is a testimony of the state of our hearts and of our relationship with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” The world operates in such a way that the amount of wealth we possess determines our status. We borrow to obtain more than we can afford, giving the lender power over us until we pay the debt we owe. This process is contrary to how the Lord treats His children. He simply gives. God gave His Son. His Son gave His life. God gave us life, so that we could live for Him. God gives bountifully, not sparingly. He blesses us so that we may be a blessing to others. Everything we have is a gift from God so that we may use it for His glory. James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” How are you giving what the Lord gave you?
