“He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.”
Would you consider your heart pure?
It is a humbling thought to dwell on, yet we read in the Scriptures that we are to keep ourselves pure. In order to do so, we must avoid and abstain from sin.
“I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.”
We are only pure in His eyes because of His grace.
Jesus Christ told of the importance of purity in the beginning of His Sermon On The Mount.
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
How do we keep our hearts pure?
Purity is only found in Him; therefore we must seek purity through His Word.
“Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.”
“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”
If we desire to keep ourselves from sin, we must seek to saturate our lives with the Word of God.
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
The Word equips us to guard ourselves against sin, and then directs us in the Way we should go, and what we should do.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.”
It is within the Word of God that we find Wisdom to understand the Truth.
“Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.”
Pureness of heart is only found in the One Who is Pure.
