Colossians 3:2
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” God wants us to focus our minds on heavenly eternal things instead of the temporal every day things. Take an account today of what has your focus. Are you constantly looking at material things, maybe having a keeping up with the Joneses mentality? Are you career driven, wanting to climb the corporate ladder? There is nothing wrong with having nice things, or wanting to have a successful career. The trouble comes when your attention or motivation is consumed with the secular things. Romans 8:6 “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” To be carnally minded refers to pursuing fleshly things. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are all things that the Lord warns us about throughout Scripture. Are you pursuing fleshly things? God desires for us to be spiritually minded. Are you focusing on eternity? Paul contrasts the carnal mind with the spiritual mind. Note the disparity of death and life. Romans 8 is focused on spiritual life or death and the love of God that we cannot be separated from once we receive Him. Being spiritually minded comes from having eternal life. Once we are in Christ, and we become new creatures, our desire should be to share with others what He has done for us. To keep the Gospel to ourselves is selfish. Share your faith with others. Allow God to change their life too. If you have lost your focus on eternity, refocus today. Ask God to help you seek to invest in eternity by supporting and contributing to the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Those who invest in eternity with not be empty handed when they reach their heavenly home. Be spiritually minded today, and every day. “Set your affection on things above…” Bible Reading: II Samuel 3-4 | I Corinthians 8 | Psalm 110
