Ephesians 6:1-2
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;).” God points out to us through the Scripture that this is not only one of the commandments, but if we follow and obey this commandment we receive something in return… Ephesians 6:3 “That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” We find that these verses refer back to the Old Testament when God gave Moses the Law. Exodus 20:12 “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” It appears that of the Ten Commandments, this is the only one that has a conditional blessing attached. If we will honour our parents, God will not only make things to be well with us, but He will also increase the days of our life. May we all honour and bless our parents while we have them in our lives. Far too often we see those who have lost their parents wishing they had done more for them, spent more time with them, and showed how much they loved them. As Mother’s Day approaches, take the time to love on those around you. Honour them. Bless them. God promises to bless us as we bless them. Bible Reading: I Samuel 11-12 | Romans 11 | Psalm 97
