“A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.”
We are not to fear evil; but rather to fear the Lord and depart from evil, for it is then, and only then, that we are truly wise.
“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”
Since there is nothing good within us, we cannot look at only ourselves and consider us to be wise whatsoever. If we are to have wisdom, we must yield ourselves to the Wisdom of the Word.
Possessing a godly fear of the Lord changes who we are and what we do.
We begin to acknowledge evil for what it is, a tool of the devil. We must flee his wicked devices.
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
When we purposefully avoid evil, we begin to reflect the Wisdom inside of us so that others can see Him, and the understanding we have that He is all we need.
“And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”
Purpose in your heart today to fear the Lord and depart from the evil of the world around you.
